Gustawa grabs gold for Mother’s Day Women’s Sunday win

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgIn some respects, this couldn’t be a more perfect day to host a Women’s Sunday tournament. Sure, it happens every Sunday, but its presence on a day that some countries in the world celebrate Mother’s Day is better than a coincidence. For those mothers who love poker, it’s an ideal way for them to do what they love on their special day.

Rebekah Mercer shared some Mother’s Day thoughts earlier this week in this article, wherein mothers discuss the part that poker plays in their lives. Balancing a hobby and motherhood has its challenges, and PokerStars Women provided a forum for some discussion about that.

While many women were spending today with their mothers or grandmothers, children or grandchildren, or aunts or other special people in their lives, a group of them found their way to the weekly Women’s Sunday. The final numbers are here:

Total players: 221
Prize pool: $11,050.00
Paid finishers: 36

The first hour of play saw two of the Team PokerStars Pros exit the field in succession. Ana Marquez was eliminated in 143rd place, and Vanessa Selbst followed in 142nd place. That left one player with the red space near her name to carry the flag for PokerStars, and Fatima Moreira de Melo did just that.

Fatima Moreiro de Melo.JPG

The money bubble burst at the 2.5-hour mark of the tournament, which saw $TurboPandi of last week’s final table unfortunately out in 37th place this week on that bubble. Snail2009 was the first player to cash for $82.87, and others lined up to collect their payouts as well. Fatima only survived until two tables remained, at which point her [Ac][Td] met up with the [Kh][Jd] of Ira_161 and lost to a jack on the flop. Ira_161 picked up the $50 bounty, and Fatima Moreira de Melo took home $121.55 for 18th place.

After the 11th place elimination of TyForPlayinX, hand-for-hand play led to an all-in move from FranPoker on a [8d][Th][Ah][9h][8h] board with [Ad][7h]. Gustawa was there with [Td][Tc] for the full house, and that was enough to eliminate FranPoker in tenth place with $176.80.

Gustawa goes strong as chip leader

The final table began with these chip counts:

Seat 1: netti.S1984 (44575 in chips)
Seat 2: Lexi4Bet (64253 in chips)
Seat 3: evjersen (65862 in chips)
Seat 4: patawkubakia (47092 in chips)
Seat 5: chelle_can (22103 in chips)
Seat 6: JulieBRIGHT (81279 in chips)
Seat 7: Ö_ö °Mopsi°° (47025 in chips)
Seat 8: Ira_161 (58665 in chips)
Seat 9: Gustawa (232146 in chips)

WS FT 05.13.12.JPG

A few double-ups led things off, as chelle_can did it through evjersen and jilieBRIGHT doubled through Lexi4Bet.

A big hand then began with JulieBRIGHT and Ö_ö °Mopsi°° limping. Gustawa limped as well, but netti.S1984 raised all-in for 43,280 chips. JulieBRIGHT was the only caller with [As][AD], and netti.S1984 showed [Ah][Kh]. The flop of [Jh][9d][3c] changed nothing, though the [Kd] on the turn brought some double-up hope. But the [Th] on the river sent former MicroMillions champion Anett “netti.S1984″ Sandke (http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/micromillions/2012/micromillions-winner-has-her-own-super-n-092170.html) out in ninth place with $209.95.

Ö_ö °Mopsi°° was the next player to move all-in, doing it from middle position with [Qh][8h] and 22,565 chips. Ira_161 reraised all-in to isolate, which worked, and showed [Ac][Kd]. The board came [Th][3d][Ad][3s][Kh] to give Ira_161 two pair, and Ö_ö °Mopsi°° was left with $276.25 for the eighth place finish.

Patawkubakia moved her short stack from the button with [Ad][Jc], and JulieBRIGHT called from the big blind with [7c][6c]. But the board was on the latter’s side when it came [Jh][9h][5d][As][8h] for the nine-high straight. Patawkubakia’s two pair were no good and resulted in a seventh place exit with $386.75.

Lexi4Bet chose the big blind from which to make her push for 13,475 chips. Original raiser JulieBRIGHT called with [Ah][Ac], and Lexi4Bet could only show [As][Qh]. The board of [Ad][2h][4d][5h][8d] brought no hope for Lexi4Bet, who left in sixth place with $497.25.

Two hands later, chelle_can made her move. After being short-stacked for most of the action and relegated to a miniscule stack after some disconnection problems, chelle_can risked her 5,000 chips with [As][9s]. Gustawa had [Kd][3d] but caught the first card on the [Kc][6h][8h] flop. Chelle_can did have a pair of eights and hope, but the [7d] and [3h] finished off the hand with two pair for Gustawa and a fifth place payout of $640.90 for chelle_can.

Ira_161 raised from UTG, and Gustawa reraised on her left. The blinds got out of the way, and Ira_161 rebumped it all-in for 62,244 chips. Gustawa called with [Kh][Kd], and Ira_161′s odds were diminished with [Ac][8h]. The flop of [5c][9c][Kc] only gave Gustawa the set of kings, and the [3s] and [8d] cards finished the hand. Ira_161 had to go in fourth place with $939.25.

Evjersen doubled through Gustawa, and upon losing more chips, doubled through JulieBRIGHT. One more double-up through Gustawa looked promising, but evjersen remained the shortest of the three stacks.

A hand then developed as evjersen and JulieBRIGHT tangled tos ee a [Th][Ac][8h] flop. Evjersen bet, and JulieBRIGHT check-called to get to the [6s] on the turn. The same betting pattern led to the [4s] on the river, which prompted JulieBRIGHT to bet and evjersen to call all-in with [As][9d]. But that top pair was trumped by the [Ad][4h] and two pair of JulieBRIGHT. Evjersen was out in third place with $1,248.65.

Russian vs. Czech

The final two players took their places with these counts:

Seat 6: JulieBRIGHT (414,103 in chips)
Seat 9: Gustawa (248,897 in chips)

The second hand of heads-up play brought this hand that turned the tables completely:

Shortly thereafter, JulieBRIGHT looked down at [Ks][5c] and limped. When Gustawa raised with [Ad][Td], JulieBRIGHT responded by moving all-in. Gustawa called, and nothing about the presentation of the [4d][6d][9s][Qd][As] board changed the outcome. Gustawa only improved to a diamond flush, and JulieBRIGHT had to settle for second place and $1,657.50.

Gustawa of the Czech Republic won this week’s Women’s Sunday nad $2,259.83 in cash. Congratulations!

Women’s Sunday Results for 05/13/12:

1st place: Gustawa ($2,259.83)
2nd place: JulieBRIGHT ($$1,657.50)
3rd place: evjersen ($1,248.65)
4th place: Ira_161 ($939.25)
5th place: chelle_can ($640.90)
6th place: Lexi4Bet ($497.25)
7th place: patawkubakia ($386.75)
8th place: Ö_ö °Mopsi°° ($276.25)
9th place: netti.S1984 ($209.95)

A day in the life of a PokerStars Blogger

04/24/2012 By: Brad Willis Filed in: 2011 | Asia Pacific Poker Tour | Baltic Poker Festival | Battle of the Planets | Belgian Poker Series | Corporate Blog | Entertainment | ept | Estrellas Poker Tour | Eureka Poker Tour | European Poker Tour | France Poker Series | gambling | General | Harrah's | Homepage | Italian Poker Tour | Joe Hachem | LAPT | Liv Boeree | MicroMillions | napt | News | On the Road | PCA | Photography | pokerstars | PokerStars Macau | PokerStars news | Pokerstarsblog | Portugal Poker Series | Rio | Russian Poker Series | SCOOP | sunday-million | sunday-warm-up | Super Tuesday | TCOOP | TOC | Tournaments | Twitter | UB | UKIPT | WBCOOP | WCOOP | Women's Sunday | World Cup of Poker | World Series of Poker | Writing

ps_news_thn.jpgSeven years ago today, the PokerStars Blog published its first post. In honor of the seventh anniversary, we’ve chosen to republish a bit from a recent PokerStars Caribbean Adventure magazine that outlines a bit about how we…ahem…work when we’re on the road.

The following is a day in the life of a PokerStars Blogger at the PCA, a writer who goes to countless poker tournaments but never touches a card or a chip. The bloggers never play one hand, but they know almost everything that happens from the first flop to the last river. This is how they work.

    ***

9:00am: On the floor sits a backpack stuffed with chicken-scratch notes, unopened from the late finish the night before. In the bed lies a member of Team PokerStars Blog. He has a decision: breakfast or another 30 minutes of sleep. The decision he makes will factor into whether he eats a proper meal on this day or subsists on potato chips, Jamba Juice, and Atomic Fireball candy.

9:05am: The decision made, the blogger dreams of playing heads-up with Liv Boeree. Breakfast is for school children. The dream will soon end with the blogger being beaten up by Joe Hachem. Always does. Off to work.

11:00am: The bloggers arrive before most people. There’s a lot to the job that most people don’t see. It goes beyond tracking chip counts and standing around poker tables. There’s the matter of photography, videos, writing, keeping track of winners, and getting it all done in a fast enough fashion it could be considered live. Moreover, they know that what they produce will be the definitive chronicle of that happens at the PCA. They may look like a bunch of ruffians, but they take the job seriously, so they arrive early, bleary-eyed, and hungry.

    blogging_monte_carlo4.jpg

    Bleary-eyed bloggers

12:00pm: Somebody shouts “Shuffle up and deal” and the bloggers descend into maze of tables to mark down where the notable players are sitting. During the first few minutes, they are likely to see aces versus kings, set over set, and someone going broke with ace-king all-in pre-flop. World-weary, the bloggers nod in sympathy as they mark down the first bust-outs of the day.

3:00pm: With the first three hours of the day gone, the bloggers have recorded and written more hands than they can remember. They are haunted by that guy who went busto with ace-king, but the rest of it is a blur of clubs, hearts, diamonds, and spades. They’ve already met about 100 players they’ve never seen before and assigned them code names like “Flat-Brim Hat Blair” and “Suzy the Girl Who Looks Like My Fifth Grade Girlfriend.” This is the only way they will keep everybody straight until the end of the day.

3:00pm-9:00pm: The bloggers would look like ants if ants moved like mercury spilled on ice. It’s a chaotic scene, but professional at the same time. Despite how it may look, the bloggers are pros. One comes from a national newspaper background. Another spent ten years on-air as a radio and TV news reporter. The photographers are the undisputed best in the industry. The team as a whole has played and seen more poker hands than can possibly be calculated. The PCA is just one of the dozens of tournaments the bloggers will cover during the year and just a sunny addition to the daily updates on everything that happens online at PokerStars. And so they report with an eye toward accurate, comprehensive, and entertaining coverage.

9:01pm: As the surviving players and staff file from the room, the bloggers remain behind. They are sweating from the previous 15 minutes of running around the room and making sure they know without question who has the chip lead. They will use that information to compose the overnight wrap-up on the PokerStars Blog. No one will leave until it’s finished. At some point long after everyone is gone, the bloggers will shuffle out with cramped hands, aching feet, and the knowledge that they have about 12 hours until a dreamscape version of Joe Hachem beats them up again. This is what they do.

1234mee counting out $2,178.03 for her April 22 Women’s Sunday victory

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgSpring is in the air! How do we know? Besides the calendar dates, there is a big tournament series on the horizon called the Spring Championship of Online Poker, better known as SCOOP. The May series is one of the most exciting poker events of the year, as it will offer each event at three different buy-in levels and give players of all bankrolls an exceptional chance to participate. Satellites are already in progress!

Another sign of spring is that the European Poker Tour is headed to Monte Carlo for its Grand Finale, and that means poker at its finest will be played in one of the most beautiful destinations on earth. PS Women Live will be there for its Ladies Event before the month is over, and we can’t wait to find out who will win, especially after the excitement of the EPT Berlin Ladies Event where none other than Charlotte “Sjlot” Van Brabander claimed victory.

Charlotte Van Brabander - EPT Berlin win.jpg

Today, we had our weekly Women’s Sunday event, which resulted in these numbers:

    Total players: 213
    Prize pool: $10,650.00
    Paid finishers: 36

Several Team PokerStars Pros entered the tournament today as $50 bounties. One of the late registrants was Ana Marquez, and she was also the first of the bounties to be eliminated. Team Online’s Adrienne “talonchick” Rowsome signed up in time to play but ended up out of the action in 128th place. Another late registrant was Vanessa Selbst, but she, too, exited in the first half, taking 112th place. And not far behind was one of the first to take her seat, Vivian Im, who left the party in 104th place.

The rest of the field headed into the money in the third hour of action, and payouts began with PULGUITO, who took home $79.87 for 36th place.

As the three-hour mark approached, so did the final table bubble, and the 11th place elimination of donleg launched hand-for-hand play. It took only moments for simplyred10 to make a move with [As][Tc] against the [3h][3d] of 1234mee. The board came [4s][4c][5c][4h][9s] to give 1234mee the full house, and simplyred10 left in tenth place with $170.40.

Chip lead as simple as 1234mee

In the beginning of Level 17, with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 300 ante, the final table began with these nine players and their starting stacks:

    Seat 1: Izzuska88 (39,444 in chips)
    Seat 2: smurfetta44 (173,645 in chips)
Seat 3: StGilmore (29,210 in chips)
    Seat 4: mtt_baller (34,949 in chips)
Seat 5: LaliTournier (69,452 in chips)
    Seat 6: 1234mee (181,025 in chips)
    Seat 7: Nastena2005 (30,232 in chips)
Seat 8: mirrcha (30,450 in chips)
Seat 9: HELENLINDES (50,593 in chips)

    WS FT 04.22.12.JPG

On the third hand of action, Nastena2005 doubled through HELENLINDES, and Izzuska88 did the same through 1234mee on the next hand.

The next hand saw mirrcha attempt the same by moving all-in UTG with [As][Qs]. LaliTournier reraised from the button with [Td][Th] to isolate, which worked. The flop of [Tc][8h][5h] gave LaliTournier the set of tens, and the [Js] and [3c] finished the hand with mirrcha out in ninth place with $202.35.

Izzuska88 and 1234mee battled again, this time with Issuska88 pushing all-in with [Qd][Qh] and 1234mee calling from the big blind with [As][Kd]. The flop hit 1234mee when it came [Jc][4s][Ks], and the [Ac] on the turn made that two pair. The [3c] on the river sealed the deal and sent Izzuska88 out in eighth place with $266.25.

Mtt_baller doubled through 1234mee, though the latter remained the undisputed chip leader. HELENLINDES then doubled through smurfetta44, but she tried again a few hands later with [AC][Qh]. That time, StGilmore woke up with [Ah][Kc], and nothing about the [Ts][9c][9d][7h][3d] board changed anything. HELENLINDES exited in seventh place with $372.75.

    The rise of a baller

Mtt_baller continued her climb with this double through smurfetta44:

RSS readers click through to see replay

LaliTournier doubled through 1234mee, which put the latter in second place and mtt_baller at the top of the leaderboard. StGilmore then doubled through LaliTournier, and Nastena2005 did the same at the expense of mtt_baller.

Smurfetta44 couldn’t survive the previous hits and moved all-in UTG with [2c][2d]. LaliTournier reraised all-in with [Ad][Qc], and everyone else folded. The board came [9h][9c][Ah][6d][8c], and the better two pair gave the chips to LaliTournier, while smurfetta44 left in sixth place with $479.25.

Nastena2005 was the next player at risk, pushing all-in preflop with [Jd][Jc]. Original raiser mtt_baller called with [Ad][8c] and caught top pair on the [9s][7c][Ac] flop. The turn and river appeared [9h][As] for the full house, more than enough to eliminate Nastena2005 in fifth place, which was worth $617.70.

StGilmore doubled through mtt_baller, and LaliTournier doubled through StGilmore. The latter moved again on the very next hand with [Ks][Tc], and mtt_baller called with [AH][9s]. The dealer provided a [2s][3h][9c][6c][3c] board, and StGilmore had to leave in fourth place with $905.25.

LaliTournier picked up a big pot from mtt_baller to take over the chip lead for the first time, and mtt_baller was the shortest of the three remaining stacks. But 1234mee climbed with some significant pots and well-timed aggression and took over the top spot from LaliTournier.

Mtt_baller then got into a preflop battle with LaliTournier. Mtt_baller pushed all-in with [8c][5c], but LaliTournier had the better hand with [Ac][9s]. The board of [8s][9h][6c][2s][Qc] gave a pair to each player, but the nines eliminated mtt_baller in third place with $1,203.45.

Nearly even heads-up stacks to start

The two remaining players began their heads-up match as follows:

Seat 5: LaliTournier (335,677 in chips)
    Seat 6: 1234mee (303,323 in chips)

Over time, 1234mee did take over the lead via a series of relatively small pots. The two then saw a raised flop of [Js][Td][Kd]. LaliTournier bet, and 1234mee check-raised. LaliTournier reraised, and 1234mee responded by pushing all-in. LaliTournier called for her last 180,177 chips with [Kc][8d] for top pair and the straight draw, but 1234mee showed [Qc][9d] for the straight. The [9c] turn and [5d] river cards ended the tournament with a second place finish for LaliTournier, which was worth $1,597.50.

Norway’s 1234mee won this week’s title and $2,178.03 in cash. Congratulations!

    Women’s Sunday Results for 04/22/12:

    1st place: 1234mee ($2,178.03)
    2nd place: LaliTournier ($1,597.50)
    3rd place: mtt_baller ($1,203.45)
    4th place: StGilmore ($905.25)
    5th place: Nastena2005 ($617.70)
    6th place: smurfetta44 ($479.25)
    7th place: HELENLINDES ($372.75)
    8th place: Izzuska88 ($266.25)

Not bad for Mr.Superbad, winner of April 15 Women’s Sunday

04/15/2012 By: Jen Newell Filed in: Asia Pacific Poker Tour | Business | Corporate Blog | Entertainment | ept | European Poker Tour | gambling | General | Harrah's | Homepage | LAPT | MicroMillions | Monte Carlo | napt | News | nottingham | Online poker | PCA | pokerstars | PokerStars news | PokerStars Women | Pokerstarsblog | SCOOP | Team PokerStars Pro | TOC | Tournaments | Twitter | UB | UKIPT | WCOOP | Women's Sunday | World Series of Poker

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgThe middle of April brought all types of excitement for women on PokerStars. Not only were satellites up and running for the first of the May SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker) events, but players were seeking their final chances to qualify for a €2,500 PS Women Live prize package to Monte Carlo. With the event scheduled to begin April 29, time was running out!

Meanwhile, there were big tournaments. The $11 Sunday Storm was hosting its anniversary tournament with a $1 million guarantee, and our own Women’s Sunday was gearing up to be another great event. When registration closed, the $10K guarantee was – as usual – blown right out of the water with an extra few thousand dollars in the prize pool.

Here were the final tournament numbers for the Women’s Sunday

    Total players: 263
    Prize pool: $13,150.00
    Paid finishers: 45

There were several members of the PokerStars crew in action today, each with a $50 bounty hanging over her head. And within the first hour, Friend of PokerStars Charlotte “Sjlot” Van Brabander found herself the victim of a bounty hunter in the first hour of play. A bit later, Team Online’s Adrienne “talonchick” Rowsome experienced the same fate, exiting in 186th place. And Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst stayed in a bit longer but hit the rail in 154th place.

That left the field wide open with the $50 bounties gone. At the three-hour mark, the field was reduced from three tables to two when syzlar was ousted in 19th place. Over the course of the next half hour, players like Leyla127 and CunciPoker were denied chances to see the Women’s Sunday final table again.

After the 11th elimination of sistar8, hand-for-hand play began. Shortly after the 3.5-hour break, zhanna1006 made her all-in push with [9c][9d], and original raiser Mr.Superbad called with [Ac][Qc]. The board came [5s][Qs][2h][Tc][Kh], and the queens sent zhanna1006 out in tenth place with $197.25.

    GGalinaVita leads final table

In the beginning of Level 20, with blinds at 3,000/6,000 and a 700 ante, the final table was set as follows:

    Seat 1: oLive_oiL07 (48,988 in chips)
    Seat 2: Mr.Superbad (143,705 in chips)
    Seat 3: drkamikaze1 (69,553 in chips)
    Seat 4: tlt-BES (84,290 in chips)
    Seat 5: 3aMa3aH (29,750 in chips)
Seat 6: RaBBiiTGiiRL (50,179 in chips)
Seat 7: GGalinaVita (193,737 in chips)
    Seat 8: durrr085 (90,261 in chips)
    Seat 9: flip.h8er (78,537 in chips)

    WS FT 04.15.12.JPG

It didn’t take long for short-stacked 3aMa3aH to move all-in. She did it from middle position for her last 17,250 chips, and durrr085 and flip.h8er both called from the blinds. They checked down the board as it showed [AS][3d][Js][3h][3s], and durrr085 turned over [8s][8h] for the full house. Both other players mucked, and 3aMa3aH headed out in ninth place with $230.12.

Drkamikaze1 doubled through GGalinaVita in a big hand to take over the lead, but Mr.Superbad was close behind.

GGalinaVita did step in to grab more chips soon, though. It happened when RaBBiiTGiiRL pushed all-in from the button with [As][Kh], and GGalinaVita reraised all-in from the small blind with [Tc][Td]. Durrr085 folded her big blind, and the race was on. But the board only produced [2c][Js][3d][Jc][5h] and allowed the tens to turn into two pair. RaBBiiTGiiRL was forced to leave in eighth place with $315.60.

    Mr.Superbad is super good

Another of the original short stacks, oLive_oiL07, was down to less than 5K chips and called all-in from the big blind after Mr.Superbad raised from UTG. Mr.Superbad showed [8d][8h], which dominated the [4h][5d] of oLive_oiL07. The board blanked with [Qs][7s][9h][Js][3c], and the eights held up to send oLive_oiL07 out in seventh place with $447.10.

Two hands later, Mr.Superbad battled with GGalinaVita after the latter’s initial raise. When Mr.Superbad pushed all-in, GGalinaVita called with [Kd][Kh], but Mr.Superbad showed [As][Ac]. The board of [2h][8d][4s][3d][2d] changed nothing, and former chip leader GGalinaVita exited in sixth place with $578.60.

Mr.Superbad then got involved with flip.h8er to see a raised flop of [5c][As][7s]. Flip.h8er moved all-in for 4,887 chips with [Ks][2s], but Mr.Superbad called quickly with [Ah][3d] for top pair. The [6d] on the turn and [9c] on the river ended the tournament for flip.h8er, who took home $749.55 for fifth place.

Tlt-BES was very short and pushed her 18,290 chips all-in with [Jh][Th], but original raiser Mr.Superbad (who else?) called with [As][9s]. The board came [8h][8s][Js][4s][Ah], but tlt-BES’ two pair were no good compared to the spade flush of Mr.Superbad. Tlt-BES finished in fourth place with $1,084.87.

Durrr085 then made a push from the small blind with [Ah][Jd], and Mr.Superbad called from the big blind with [7c][7s]. The flop of [4h][7d][Kc] gave Mr.Superbad the set of sevens, which held up to the [2c] turn and [Jh] river. Durrr085 left in third place with $1,446.50.

    Can Mr.Superbad be stopped?

The final two players began their match with these chip stacks:

    Seat 2: Mr.Superbad (629,082 in chips)
    Seat 3: drkamikaze1 (159,918 in chips)

Drkamikaze1 tried but couldn’t seem to find any good opportunities to chip up. The last hand came down to this:

RSS readers click through to see replay

The [Ad][Js] of drkamikaze1 looked good against the [Qh][4d] of Mr.Superbad, but the board came [3d][Qs][Ts][4c][Qd] for a full house. Drkamikaze1 had to accept second place and the $1,906.75 that went with it.

Congrats to Mr.Superbad of Germany for the Women’s Sunday win worth $2,544.64!

    Women’s Sunday Results for 04/15/12:

    1st place: Mr.Superbad ($2,544.64)
    2nd place: drkamikaze1 ($1,906.75)
    3rd place: durrr085 ($1,446.50)
    4th place: tlt-BES ($1,084.87)
    5th place: flip.h8er ($749.55)
    6th place: GGalinaVita ($578.60)
    7th place: oLive_oiL07 ($447.10)
    8th place: RaBBiiTGiiRL ($315.60)
    9th place: 3aMa3aH ($230.12)

ps_news_thn.jpgFor many, many folks of varying cultures, this was a holiday weekend. Obviously, no one told the PokerStars community. Yesterday’s Sunday majors were rocking and rolling and gave barely a hint of the celebrations going on around the world.

More than 8,200 people showed up for this weekend’s Sunday Million, a big amount for any week, let alone a holiday weekend. That meant a prize pool worth $1,645,000. Not a bad little present from the Easter Bunny, huh?

Despite the holiday weekend, we had our eyes on the big events happening throughout the weekend. Here are some quick links to the bigger stories from the past couple of days.

  • Sunday Warm-Up: Five-way deal makes victory easier for Palmero92
  • Scarey Pelt felts the rest, wins April 8 Women’s Sunday
  • Guesty001 stages stellar comeback to win April 8 Sunday Million title
  • 4-8-12-sunday_million_final.JPG

Of course, those weren’t the only stories this weekend. There were dozens of major events on PokerStars over that 48-hour period. For a complete look at the results from the weekend, see that 4-8-12 PokerStars Sunday majors results list.

Good luck to everyone in the coming week. And don’t forget to get your seat for the Sunday Storm first anniversary special!

Scarey Pelt felts the rest, wins April 8 Women’s Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgApril is a big month for PokerStars Women. We’re in our second year of the Women’s Sunday, which is exciting in itself, and we’re in our fourth month of the 2012 Women’s Poker League with the three divisions. And we’re going to host our third $11 Women’s Tuesday in a few days with its $1K guarantee.

This is also the last month to qualify for the PS Women Live tournament in Monte Carlo. There are still a few €2,500 prize packages to be awarded, but there’s not much time left! The action will happen at the EPT Grand Final from April 29 to May 2, so get in on those daily satellites and work your way to next Sunday’s prize package giveaway soon!

Back to the action today, here’s our Women’s Sunday numbers:

    Total players: 265
    Prize pool: $13,250.00
    Paid finishers: 45

Of the Team Pros in the field today, Team Online’s Adrienne “talonchick” Rowsome was the first to exit, giving up her $50 bounty in the first hour of play. Further into play, Team Pro Vivian Im made a deep run but finished in 99th place, and Liv Boeree left in 52nd place, just a few spots away from the money.

That money bubble burst when sm2011 busted in 46th place, and Mariiia91 then took home $79.50 for her 45th place finish. At that point, with only five and then four tables remaining, none other than Team Pro Ana Marquez was in the top spot on the leaderboard. Scarey Pelt did take over that lead, and Ms. Marquez fought to stay in the top 10 as the field was reduced to three tables.

About 3 hours and 15 minutes into the tournament, bbchoc exited in 11th place to bring on hand-for-hand play. Moments later, short-stacked Brigitte7 pushed her 9,240 chips all-in with [Ad][2h], and RoseKoehler and .Ta2.Terry! both called. They checked the [7c][5c][9c] flop, and when RoseKoehler bet the [5s] turn, .Ta2.Terry! folded. RoseKoehler showed [Ac][6c] for the flopped flush, and the [9d] ended the tournament for Brigitte7 in tenth place, which was worth $198.75.

    Things looking rosy for RoseKoehler

These were the starting stacks a few hands into the final table action:

    Seat 1: Elz442 (68,317 in chips)
    Seat 2: .Ta2.Terry! (94,168 in chips)
    Seat 3: SummerLove X (111,973 in chips)
    Seat 4: 1989masha (114,852 in chips)
    Seat 5: kino8 (62,576 in chips)
Seat 6: Scarey Pelt (74,786 in chips)
Seat 7: ana marquez (101,678 in chips)
Seat 8: MothaPoka (24,483 in chips)
Seat 9: RoseKoehler (142,167 in chips)

    WS FT 04.08.12.JPG

It didn’t take long for Ana Marquez to jump into the lead, but Elz442 was close behind and soon climbed into the number one spot.

After the 3.5-hour break, the first hand back was a big one. MotherPoka moved all-in from middle position for her short stack of 12,083 chips. RoseKoehler reraised to 27,000, and SUmmerLove X reraised all-in for 90,073 chips. RoseKoehler called again.

    MothaPoka: [Ac][6c]
    SummerLove X: [Ah][Ks]
    RoseKoehler: [Qs][Qc]

the board blanked with [2s][Jh][9s][5s][3h], and the queens held up to eliminate MothaPoka in ninth place with $231.87 and SummerLove X in eighth with $318.00.

Kino8 was the next of the short stacks to move all-in, doing so from the button with [As][9s]. Elz442 was the original raiser and called with [Ad][4h] but made a straight on the [7c][5d][6d][2s][3c] board. Kino8 was ousted in seventh place with $450.50.

A few double-ups followed, as Scarey Pelt doubled through Elz442, and the latter then doubled through RoseKoehler. But RoseKoehler maintained a substantial lead over the group of remaining players.

When .Ta2.Terry! was ready to make her all-in move, RoseKoehler was there to make the call with [Th][Tc], and .Ta2.Terry! needed help for her [Ah][2s]. The board of [8h][9s][8d][4s][6d] didn’t provide it, though, and .Ta2.Terry! was eliminated in sixth place with $583.00.

More double-ups ensued. 1989masha doubled through Ana Marquez, who then doubled through RoseKoehler to stay alive. Scarey Pelt then took a pot worth 248,500 chips from RoseKoehler to jump into the chip lead.

Elz442 was the next player to risk everything, and she did it UTG with [AH][2h]. RoseKoehler called from the big blind with [Ac][Qc], which improved to an even better hand when the [Js][Ks][7h][Td][2c] gave her the straight. Elz442 had to leave in fifth place with $755.25.

    Adios Ana

Ana Marquez had been working a short stack and finally pushed it all-in preflop from the big blind with [6d][6s]. Original raiser RoseKoehler called, as did 1989masha from the button. Both players checked the [5d][Jd][Qh] flop, as well as the [Qc] turn and [Qd] river. Ana Marquez showed her full house, but 1989masha turned over [Ad][Js] for queens full of jacks and the better full house. Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez finished the tournament in fourth place with $1,093.12.

    Ana Marquez 3.jpg

RoseKoehler was the shortest of the three remaining players, and she soon moved all-in preflop with [Ac][8s]. Scarey Pelt called with [Qc][Qs], though, and that pocket pair improved to two pair on the [6d][Kd][9d][Tc][6s] board. RoseKoehler was ousted in third place, which was worth $1,457.50 in prize money.

    Switzerland vs. Netherlands

The final two players began their battle with these stacks:

    Seat 4: 1989masha (238,658 in chips)
Seat 6: Scarey Pelt (556,342 in chips)

On the eighth hand, we had fireworks. Action started with a raised flop of [5s][7s][7c]. 1989masha bet, and Scarey Pelt check-raised. 1989masha responded with an all-in call holding [Jd][Jc], but the two pair wasn’t good enough to compare with the [Ac][7h] and trip sevens of Scarey Pelt. The [4s] and [6d] finished the board and left 1989masha out in second place with $1,921.25.

Scarey Pelt of Switzerland became this week’s Women’s Sunday champion and won $2,563.99 in cash. Congrats!

    Women’s Sunday Results for 04/08/12:

    1st place: Scarey Pelt ($2,563.99)
    2nd place: 1989masha ($1,921.25)
    3rd place: RoseKoehler ($1,457.50)
4th place: Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez ($1,093.12)
    5th place: Elz442 ($755.25)
    6th place: .Ta2.Terry! ($583.00)
    7th place: kino8 ($450.50)
    8th place: SummerLove X ($318.00)
    9th place: MothaPoka ($231.87)

    PokerStars weekend review (4-1-12)

ps_news_thn.jpgI’ll be honest. I’m really glad that weekend is over. So much was happening at once that it felt like everything might actually be an April Fools joke. What’s worse, there were no jokes. Everything was real. Everything was insane. And it just kept coming.

The biggest news of the weekend continues at this very moment. As I type these words, Isaac Haxton and Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom are engaged in the third day of a $1 million SuperStar Showdown battle. They will continue every day until somebody has all the money. As it happens, it’s my job to watch that match play out, so you’ll excuse me if I lean toward brevity with this weekend recap.

Here are the highlights from the Fool’s weekend.

  • Viktor Blom vs Isaac Haxton for $1 million
  • Sunday Warm-Up: Big hands not needed in AA d@n¡ KK’s win
  • No joke, leglybrunete wins April 1 Women’s Sunday
  • Sunday Million: Lurkio77 levels the final table, wins $196k
  • 4-1-12_sunday_million.jpg

You should also probably take notice that PokerStars launched its first 2013 PCA Mega-Path satellites this morning. Head on over there to be among the first to get your PCA seat.

Finally, if you’re wondering who would be crazy enough to have registered for 98 MicroMillions events, it turns out one of them is a new EPT champion.

For a complete rundown of all the Sunday majors action from the weekend, visit our 4-1-12 Sunday majors final table results page.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have about three more hours of railing to do on Blom and Haxton. The weekend may be over, but the chips never stop moving.

Good luck to all in the coming week.

No joke, leglybrunete wins April 1 Women’s Sunday

    04/01/2012 By: Jen Newell Filed in: Asia Pacific Poker Tour | Campione | Corporate Blog | Entertainment | ept | European Poker Tour | gambling | General | Harrah's | Homepage | LAPT | Liv Boeree | MicroMillions | napt | News | PCA | pokerstars | PokerStars news | PokerStars Women | Pokerstarsblog | SCOOP | TOC | Tournaments | Twitter | UB | UKIPT | WCOOP | Women's Sunday | World Series of Poker

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgAfter all the excitement of last weekend’s Women’s Sunday birthday celebration, it was time to get back to normal this weekend. But we’re not going to lie. The absence of the web chat and all of the birthday messages was a bit of a letdown. We also miss the virtual birthday cakes.

Even so, we still have our Women’s Sunday! It is as thrilling as ever, with its $10,000 guarantee and $50 Team Pro bounties. We also now have the Women’s Tuesday on the calendar each week, the 6-max No Limit Hold’em tournament which is already a popular event for women with its $1,000 guarantee. And today kicks off another month of the always-exciting Women’s Poker League, where three divisions offer our players the chance to win big cash prizes for points each month. As the March numbers are being calculated, players are already off to conquer the April divisions.

Let’s take a look at this week’s Women’s Sunday numbers:

    Total players: 283
    Prize pool: $14,150.00
    Paid finishers: 45

It didn’t take long for some of the Team Pros to exit today, as Celina Lin and Liv Boeree were both eliminated in the first hour of action. Team Pro Ana Marquez of Spain lasted a bit longer and exited in 208th place. Still going strong in the top half of the remaining players was Vanessa Selbst, playing her usual aggressive game heading into the third hour of the tournament.

The money bubble burst just into that third hour, as hand-for-hand play quickly led to the 46th place elimination of kassike. That left a minimum of $84.90 for each of the remaining players, and ladysandri was the first to collect that amount.

Selbst was soon to follow, losing a big hand and going from 20th place on the leaderboard to a 42nd place exit.

Just after the 2.5-hour break, three tables were reduced to two in only 15 minutes. And just past the three-hour mark, the elimination of jdcdman in 11th place brought hand-for-hand play into motion. A few minutes later, Dalma85 made a push with [Ac][Td], and dwxwb called with a dominating [Ad][Qd]. The board came [9d][As][9c][4c][Qh], and Dalma85 had to go in tenth place with $212.25.

    Pengwin402 waddles into chip lead

The starting chip stacks at the final table were as follows:

Seat 1: simonikka (20,533 in chips)
Seat 2: chinuchinu (92,877 in chips)
    Seat 3: she6 (48,535 in chips)
    Seat 4: Ira_161 (67,796 in chips)
Seat 5: mamalice (110,283 in chips)
    Seat 6: pengwin402 (157,540 in chips)
Seat 7: evjersen (125,967 in chips)
Seat 8: dwxwb (137,906 in chips)
Seat 9: leglybrunete (87,563 in chips)

    WS FT 04.01.12.JPG

The third hand of the final table saw simonikka push all-in for 19,333 chips from middle position. Evjersen called from the big blind with [Ts][9s], and simonikka was ahead with [As][Jc]. But the flop of [8h][7s][Ac] gave evjersen the straight draw, and the [Jd] on the turn completed it. The [7c] on the river eliminated simonikka in ninth place with $247.62.

She6 was next to risk it all, making the push from the big blind with [As][Qc]. But it just so happened that original raiser dwxwb had [Ad][Ah] and easily made the call. Nothing about the [Kd][7d][2c][4d][9c] board changed the outcome, and she6 was gone in eighth place with $339.60.

Chinuchinu then got into a hand with evjersen and leglybrunete to see a raised flop of [3h][9d][Td]. Chinuchinu bet, evjersen called, and leglybrunete folded. The [8d] on the turn prompted chinuchinu to move all-in for just under 39K chips, and evjersen called with [9s][9c], which dominated the [Kc][Qs] of chinuchinu. The river was the [2d], and chinuchinu left in seventh place with $481.10.

Two hands later, Ira_161 raised all-in from the small blind with [Qc][Th], and mamalice called from the big blind with [Kd][Js]. The interesting board came [2d][2c][Jc][Tc][2h], giving both players full houses but mamalice had the better one with deuces full of jacks. Ira_161 exited in sixth place with $622.60.

    Mamalice takes over

This double-up put mamalice in the lead:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Dwxwb was reduced to little more than 15K chips and moved all-in on the next hand with [Kc][9c]. Leglybrunete called from the button with [Qd][5d]. The flop of [Kh][Qs][Ad] kept dwxwb in the lead, as did the [2c] on the turn, but the [Qc] on the river gave leglybrunete trip queens to eliminate dwxwb in fifth place, which was worth $806.55.

Four-handed play was rather intense and calculated, as more than $2700 awaited the ultimate winner of the tournament. The shortest stack was held by evjersen, who finally risked it all with [Ah][2c] against the [As][5d] of mamalice. The better hand only improved on the [Ts][6c][5h][Kh][6h] board, and evjersen had to depart in fourth place with $1,167.37.

Leglybrunete was able to double-up through mamalice, though, in this hand:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Pengwin402 needed to make a move soon. She got involved with leglybrunete to see a raised flop of [Ad][As][9d], and pengwin402 then moved all-in. Leglybrunete called with [Ah][5h] for the set of aces, while pengwin402 showed [Kd][Qs]. The [3s] and [6c] completed the board and left pengwin402 out in third place with $1,556.50.

Two hands to decide it all

The final two players stacked up like this:

Seat 5: mamalice (387,624 in chips)
Seat 9: leglybrunete (461,376 in chips)

On the second hand, a preflop raising war saw mamalice make the all-in push with [9s][9d], and leglybrunete called with [Ad][7s]. The board came [As][Jc][Kd][6c][2s], and the pair of aces was enough to eliminate mamalice in second place with $2,051.75.

Leglybrunete of Canada won the April 1st Women’s Sunday and $2,738.14 in cash. Congrats!

    Women’s Sunday Results for 04/01/12:

    1st place: leglybrunete ($2,738.14)
    2nd place: mamalice ($2,051.75)

    7th place: chinuchinu ($481.10)
    8th place: she6 ($339.60)
