Twitter Poker League begins seventh season

05/12/2011 By: Filed in: 2011 | General | News | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpgThis week saw the start of the seventh season of the Twitter Poker League, a fresh leaderboard and another $2,100 in bi-monthly prizes up for grabs. 549 players took to the tables this week, 81 of whom would be paid and over $100 would go to 1st place.

Over half of the field was out after the first hour of play, and 227 surviving players took a short break. Blinds went up to 60/120 when play resumed and the race was on to build a stack and get to the money. By the time the second break came around there were just 85 players left, and before long we were on the bubble. “grannyfish97″ (@jaydee_97) commented “@tpokerstars have been bubble once in my #tpoker career, certainly don’t intend to again”. The money bubble burst and she and 80 other players received at least $1.59.

Other Twitter Poker League regulars were spotted in the money “3Karen3″ (@facetiouskaren) “crackalocker” “Flush_King73″ and a past winner “3xBB”. Before long we were down to 5 tables, with “grannyfish97″ (@jaydee_97) finishing in 45th for $2.19, stacks were getting shorter and the blinds higher as we closed in on the final table. “peter866″ of Poland lead the final three tables as another 5 minute break was taken, when we returned play would carry us to the final table.

7 1 FT.PNG

“tendencioso” was the chip leader at the start of the final table, but soon shared that role with eventual winner “werdan” when he doubled him up in hand two of the final table. Presumably with the intention of calling one of the short stacks, “werdan” limped with [Qs][7s], short stack “leuschi71″ pushed his last few chips in with [Ad][Kd]. Both of them hit a piece of the flop [6s][7c][Kh], but the turn brought a [Qh] making “werdan” two-pair. The river was the [8d] and bid farewell to “leuschi71″ who finished in 9th place.

A few hands later “werdan” was dealt [8d][8h] in the big blind and called easily when “pachipele” shoved under the gun with [4c][4h]. The board ran out [2c][6c][Qh] [Jd] [8s] giving “werdan” a set for good measure. “pachipele” finished in 8th place for $12.35. Next to go was former chip leader “tendencioso” in 7th place, when he 3bet shoved [Ac][9c] into “werdan” who had raised with [7h][7d]. The board didn’t bring an Ace or a nine to win him the flip, [8h][6h][Ts] [6c] [2d] and “werdan” racked up another elimination!

Cruising with almost 400,000, “werdan” began to dominate the table. Though not strategically sound “werdan” used a tactic we had seen at this final table before, he limped with [Qc][7c] and called the short stack shove from “mrvcooia” who held [As][Kc]. The flop seemed pretty safe [Td][Ts][4d] and so did the turn [2d], but the river [7h] brought an end to “mrvcooia”‘s run. He left in 6th place for a solid $23.33. Five-handed play started and stopped in two hands, the latter of which saw the end of “DyxSpirit”. He moved his last few chips in with [Kh][Ks] and vs. the [As][Tc] he stood a good chance of a double up. [Ad][5c][Ts] was the flop and suddenly he was drawing very thin, the turn [9d] and river [Th] only made things worse, bringing a full house for the increasingly lucky “werdan”.

We were now down to the final four player, and each of them will become bounty players next week as a result of their success. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for “effieeve”, “msqra”, “stefanie696″ and “werdan” next week as eliminating them is worth 300FPP each! By the time the blinds reached 4k/8k “msqra” was left with just over 6 big blinds under the gun and shoved with [Ks][Jc] but could get past “werdan”‘s [7d][5d] when the board fell [9d][4h][5c] [3c] [9c]. Three players remained, in the second to last hand of the tournament, a recently crippled “stefanie696″ shoved with [Kd][Tc] only to lose a flip vs. “effieeve” on a board of [8h][4s][7h] [Jh] [3s].
Heads-up play was now on the agenda, “werdan” lead with 600k and “effieeve” had just over 200k. It was all over in one hand, and a rather entertaining one at that – as seen below.

one hand heads up 7-1.PNG

No matter how that hand was played all the money would have gone in, so it may have well been preflop as it was. “effieeve” shoveing his button and well you can see the result for yourself, a flopped set for both players – nobody would be folding even if they had the chance.

A thrilling start to the new season of the Twitter Poker League, “werdan” definitely the star of the show single-handily knocking out over half of the final table. As usual it is an ei8ht week season and week two of seven is already open for registration, check out tourneyID: 391040870 for more info.

Twitter Poker League ends sixth season

04/27/2011 By: Filed in: General | News | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpgIt was the final week of the sixth season of the Twitter Poker League and 649 players turned out to fight for a few last minute points. Last week’s top four finishers “zakhar0203″, “Ex-Ray 24″, “schiber23″ and last week’s winner “Serj.Turchik” were given 300FPP bounties for this week. “Ex-Ray 24″ (@ExRay24) was the only one of them to return this week to take on that challenge, and finished in 391st place. “Gorby3975″ was the lucky winner of the bounty when his pocket sixes cracked “Ex-Ray24″‘s Aces!

Things were getting tense around the bubble, week 7 leader “Rivermenow” (@rivermenow) was watching closely to see if any of the players in contention would cash and overtake him. 99 players were paid this week, and when they were “Rivermenow” was unfortunately overtaken by both “Towei” and “RomkaNN” when they both cashed. Neither of those two made the final table this week though, which meant the overall winner was decided – as nobody who did make the final table had more than 10 points already.

The final table of the season was assembled, “HenkMeer” lead with 265k followed at a distance by “Obiwaannn” with 160k. “seyfe63″ was the shortest stack going into the final table, with a mere 25k to his name. He shoved the very first hand of the final table, five big blinds with [5h][5d] which held well against [Ks][Qs] giving him a much needed early double up and was surely essential to his eventual win. Two hands later and the same good fortune wasn’t had by “NagNog” who shoved [Ah][Js] under the gun only to run into “Csimpi65″ who held [Kh][Kd] – the board ran out [7d][5c][5d] [3h] [6d] and he finished in 9th place taking $8.43 for his efforts.

Next to be eliminated was “chaosboom” in an all too familiar situation, he pushed all-in with [As][Jc] only to be caught out by “Csimpi65″ who held [Kh][Ks] again! This time the board was, [9d][4s][3h] [Qs] [7h] and without an ace it was farewell to “chaosboom” who came 8th for $14.27. Seventh place this week went to “jose 8104″, who boldly shoved [8c][6c] blind vs. blind only to be snap called by “avella92″ who held [Ah][Ks]. With an ace on the flop [8h][As][Td] things didn’t look good despite pairing his eight. The turn [2d] and river [4d] didn’t help and he left with a little over $20.

“Obiwaannn” has been disconnected since the start of the final table and now that play was six-handed, it really started to affect the game. Nobody who had slightly more chips than him wanted to play as they could simply out-fold him, the biggest stacks took advantage of that as you might well imagine but so too did “seyfe63″. He was still one of the shorter stacks at the table but that didn’t stop him aggressively abusing the situation. Timid or not there are some hands you just never fold, “avella92″ called easily with [Kd][Ks]when “ElieltonPKR” pushed from under the gun with [Ad] [Qc]. Unluckily for him though the flop [7d][Ac][8d] brought the only over-card he was facing, no king fell on the turn [9d] or the river [5h] and he finished the tournament in 6th place.

“Obiwaannn” was blinded out in 5th place and picked up $33.74, and play began to return to normal when we continued four-handed. Instantly after “Obiwaannn” had left, shortest stack “Csimpi65″ moved his remaining few chips in with [Kd][8c], he was called by “”[Ad][5d] and was in a horrible spot when the flop came [As][6h][6d], he would need running Kings eights or sixes to survive and with the turn the [5c] he was drawing dead. The hand right after that “ElieltonPKR” shoved over “HenkMeer”‘s min raise blind on blind and the two players found themselves in a flip. [3c][3h] vs. [As] [8h], and eight on the flop [7c][Jd][8s] put the pressure on and with the final two cards not a three ([Js][9d]) he left in 3rd place for $64.25.

Play was now heads-up between “seyfe63″ and “HenkMeer” who held 280k and 570k respectively. “seye63″ proved after a small number of hands that he was clearly the better heads-up player today, he was getting paid when he had the better hands and not losing much when he didn’t. After a while the two players managed to get all-in preflop, “seyfe63″ with [As][kd] which dominated the [Ks][Jc] of “HenkMeer”.

tpl_final_hand.jpg

“seyfe63″ took the win and the $119.45 that came with it, he also collected 20 leaderboard points meaning he finished the league in tied 8th place with a total of 30 points. “ElGocho1″ finished 5th with 32 points, “Rivermenow” (@rivermenow) and RomkaNN tied for 4th place with 33 points across 6 games each. “Towei” proved that by playing all 8 games in a season you really stand a good chance, placing 2nd with 34 points from 8 games. The overall winner for Season 6 of the Twitter Poker League is; “wampir69″. Congratulations! Your $700 STEP 5 ticket will be with you shortly.

Next week will see the start of a new season of the Twitter Poker League, a fresh start with a blank leaderboard. Don’t miss out on getting an early start.

majocar1 drives off with Twitter League prize

04/12/2011 By: Filed in: ept | General | News | pokerstars | PokerStars news | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

Thumbnail image for ps_news_thn.jpg“majocar1″ sped past the rest of the field this week to claim first place. 1,075 players took part in this Sunday’s Twitter Poker League game. Two of the four nominated bounty players turned out this week, too, “Lunathick” and last week’s winner “wampir69″. “Ex-Ray24″ was lucky enough to knock out the previous champ when his [4d][4h] held in a flip vs. the [Ks][Jh] or “wampir69″.

The Twitter Poker League is a fast-paced game, as you’ll know if you take part. On the first break we had lost well over half the field with just 420 players left. An hour later just 158 players remained, five people short of being paid and by the time we reached the third break we only had 48 players left. Not long after the fourth break we had the last nine players sat around the final table. “Vipera40″ lead the way with over 500k in chips, and catdog7700 was the shortest stack, with just 45k.

sixftnine.JPG

They say to start as you mean to go on, and that’s exactly what “Vipera40″ did. His first elimination set the tone for the majority of the final table. Just a few hands into the start of the final table “adnikadnik” called “vipera40″‘s open with [Ac][Jd] and hit the [Jh][5c][9d] flop wonderfully, “vipera40″ who held [Kd][Qc] decided to move all in with his gutshot straight draw and overcards. “adnikadnik” snap called with top-top and hi heart must have sunk as the [Th] came on the turn giving “vipera40″ a straight. After the river [Ks] “adnikadnik” was the first to leave, coming in 9th place this week for $11.82. Next to bust was the shortest stack “catdog7700″ he got involved in a huge 3 way pot with his [Ah][Jh] vs the [6h][6c] of chip leader “vipera40″ and the [Ad][Ac] of “Rim0777″. The board ran out [Qc][Kd][8h] [8d] [3d] and “Rim0777″ scored a double up and change, “vipera40″ lost the chip lead and a sizeable chunk of his stack.

Some hands in the Twitter Poker League baffle me, even at the final table. “GORRSS” picked up [Qs][Ts] and decided to limp with it, “vipera40″ then shoved and “GORRSS” decided to call off his entire stack. In a strange kind of way he was right as “vipera40″ only held [Jd][Td] and was dominated preflop, however two diamonds on the [Qd][8d][6s] flop and the turn [7d]brought the flush for “vipera40″ and it was game over for “GORRSS” who finished 7th for $31.71.

Six-handed play was becoming a lengthy ordeal, before the above huge hand took place. “majocar1″ would have won the hand even without the set of tens on the turn, but I doubt he minded. “slims181″ left in 6th place for $42.46 and former chip leader “vipera40″ was crippled. “majorcar1″ was now the overwhelming whip leader with over 600k and that hand was surely the defining moment of the final table. A bluff gone wrong was the downfall of “vipera40″ a few hands later, when he kept firing with [Kh][8s] on each street of the [5d][6h][9d] [3c] [3h] board, only to be wisely called down by “smit8006″ who held [Ac][6c] for second pair. “vipera40″‘s run was over and he claimed $53.21 for his 5th place finish this week.

Four-handed play didn’t last long at all, as “smit8006″ and “majocar1″ got it all in blind vs. blind with [7c][7s] and [Jc][Js] respectively. The Jacks held easily by making a set on the flop and “smit8806″ finished in 4th place taking $74.82 with him. Previously silent player “Improbus29″ was the next to leave in third place, when his ambitious shove with [Qc][3c] on the [Kd][4s][Qs] flop was crushed by “Rim0777″ who held top pair with [Kh][Td]. The turn [Ac] was of no help and the river [Ts] only bettered “Rim0777″‘s hand, making him two pair, so “Improbus29″ left in a respectable third place taking over $100 with him.

Heads up play ensued, lasting a fairly average 17 hands, “majocar1″ had a 2:1 chip lead to begin the match allowing him to really put the pressure on “Rim0777″. Slowly but surely “majocar1″ was racking up chips, by the time that “Rim0777″ took a stand with his turned two pair with [Kd][7c] on the [7s][2s][As] [Kc] board it was basically too late. “majocar1″ already held a flush with [Qs][6s] when the money went in on the turn, and the river [Js] didn’t bring a lucky King or Seven for “Rim0777″. “majocar1″ took the win, the $186.20 prize money and 20 leaderboard points.

There are just two weeks left of this Season and competition is high. Nobody has more than 40 points yet, so back to back wins over the next two weeks and the league and the $700 Step 5 Ticket top prize is yours – simple. Next week’s game is already open for registration and you can find it under the tourney ID: 380817746.

wampir69 takes a bite out of TPL

04/06/2011 By: Filed in: General | News | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League

ps_news_thn.jpg1,250 players took part in the 5th week of Season 6 this Sunday, a big increase on last week’s 875! With a nice round 1250 players this week 180 would be paid, and receive a minimum of five points for the leaderboard.

Last week’s top four players “abra1304″, “bandita747″, “rivermenow” (@rivermenow) and “towei” were given 300FPP bounties, and anyone who knocked them out could claim that prize. Fourth place finisher “towei” was the first of the three that played week 5 to go, as seen below he got his top pair top kicker in vs. “Max_exspert” who luckily had found the [Jc] on the turn to yield two-pair. “towei” was out in 667th place, less than an hour after the tourney had started.

towei.PNG

On the first break we had lost well over half the field with 499 players remaining, and by the second break we had only 199 players left. 19 players later and we were in the money, shortly after that Twitter Poker League regular “rivermenow” (@rivermenow) was knocked out. He had become incredibly short and was forced all-in in the big blind, he held [9s][8c] and wasn’t is terrible shape preflop vs. the [3d][3h] of “Oleg6999″. However, when the flop fell [9h][5s][3c] he was virtually drawing dead, congratulations to “Oleg6999″ on claiming the 300FPP bounty.

So the last bounty player remaining was last week’s winner “abra1304″ and when he was still in, when we had just four tables remaining – things got pretty exciting. Nobody has ever won back to back matches, and I’m fairly sure nobody has even made final tables two week’s running. That hope was short lived though, when he was eliminated it 36th place. $4.37 for his efforts and another 5 points on the leaderboard will surely be well received.

It wasn’t long before we had the last 9 players set around the final table. “funky RU” lead the way with over 400,000 in chips, 20 times as many as shortest stack “johan301″!

season 6 week 5 FT.PNG

As the smallest stack you can’t really argue with “johan301″ moving in with [Jh][Th] with less than four big blinds, sadly he was called and dominated by “andrzej.r957″ who held [Qs][Jd]. He was out in 9th place after the board came [5d][3s][As] [7c] [8s], 8th place this week went to “pac0boy” who boldly shoved his pocket sevens on the [Qd][4s][6s] flop only to find that “zwiefalter69″ has flopped top pair defending his big blind. The [Jh] turn and [8d] river didn’t help and we were down to 7 players.

The very next hand “talnet” must have figured his top pair top kicker was good when he had [Ah][6h] on the six high flop. Sadly for him though “andrzej.r957″ held [9h][9c] and with no ace or six on the turn or river he was out in 7th. “andrzej.r957″ was now the overwhelming chip leader, but it was short lived as he was soon involved in the cooler below:

6 5 cooler.PNG

All the money went in on the flop, and a huge 540k pot was pushed in “Funky RU”‘s direction. Sixth place went to “Zwiefalter69″ who couldn’t get lucky with his [Qc][Tc] vs. the [Kd][Qs] of “Funky RU”. Shortly after that the now crippled “andrzej.r957″ was out in 5th, and then four handed kicked off with a flip between the [7h][7d] of “Funky RU” and [Qh][Js] of “12erHolz”. The flop came [Tc][Ad][7s] bringing one player a set, and the other a gutshot straight draw, “12erHolz” made that straight when the turn brought the [9d] but the river [Th] brought justice for “Funky RU” and made him a full house, knocking “12erHolz” out in 4th place for $85.00.

Third place finisher this week was a result of “Funky RU” shoving [As][Ks] and getting it all-in way ahead of the [Ah][8d] held by “Lunathick”, but the board ran out [2d][9c][Qs] [2h] [9h] and they split it. “Funky RU” wasted no time getting it all in again with “Lunathick” the next hand, the shoe was on the other foot this time when his [Ad][6c] was crushed by “Lunathick”‘s [As][9h], the flop [4d][4c][6h] brought another bout of good luck his way, and “Lunathick” was unable to recover on the [Tc] turn and [Jh] river. $115.00 was third place prize this week, as well as 16 leaderboard points of course.

Heads up play lasted a reasonable 17 hands this week, with “Funky RU” leading at the start with a 10:7 chip ratio. The turning point of the match came when “wampir69″‘s [6d][6c] held in a huge 1.676million chip pot vs. [Qc][Jh]. The match was over very quickly after that, “Funky RU” took home $152.50 for second place, and “wampir69″ took home $209.33 and 20 leaderboard points for the win. We still have three weeks left in this season of the Twitter Poker League, and next week’s game is already open for registration. You can find it under the tournament ID: 380817745.

abra1304 cadabras his way to TPL win

03/29/2011 By: Filed in: General | News | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpg“abra1304″ came out on top of the smaller than usual field this week. 875 players turned out for this week’s Twitter Poker League game, my guess is that everyone else was busy with the huge inaugural Sunday Storm. Besting nearly 900 players is no easy feat, so let’s see how it all went down.

As usual this season last week’s top four were nominated for bounties this week, “Mj500″, “DjuK_67″, “Zucceroo” and last week’s winner “RomakaNN” all had a 300FPP price put on their heads. “Mj500″ was knocked out in 278th and “DjuK_67″ followed immediately after him in 277th. Last week’s winner “RomkaNN” was out in 68th when his [Ts][Th] into the [As][Ad] of under the gun raiser “Gleo27″. This meant that “Zucceroo” was the last bounty player standing, very short he shoved first to act with [Ah][4s] and ended up getting it in as a flip vs. “Arvira” who held [Kc][Qc], the flop came with a [4h] putting him ahead but a [Qs] on the turn had him drawing thin, and the river [7d] was of no help. He was out in 27th, with top 4 finishes last week and another 5 points each this week “RomkaNN” and “Zucceroo” are no doubt high up on the season leaderboard.

Now down to the final three tables it wasn’t long before we had the last nine players shuffling into their new seats around the final table.

6 4 FT.PNG

Twitter Poker League regular “rivermenow” (@zelljrc) had snuck onto the final table as one of the shortest stacks, stark contrast to “bandita747″ who lead the table with 360k. I almost want to cover every hand of this final table, after all there were only 37 hands played, from the first elimination to the last. Easily making this final table the fastest yet, and I feel like I say something like that each week! That first elimination was “Masstiff” who shoved his small ace [Ac][3s] into the big blind “KENEK1982″ who called the small portion of his chipstack with [7s][6s], the board ran out [7h][5d][9s] [2s] [6c] giving “KENEK1982″ two pair.

8th place this week went to short stack DRRmind just two hands later, his [Ts][2s] unable to best the small blind’s [Ad][5h]. A few hands later we had an action packed hand, between the previously quiet “ICEMANOMAD” and two of the big stacks “bandita747″ and “KENEK1982. They held [Kc][Jh], [Ah][Ad] and [Th][Ts] respectively and this is how it all turned out.

6 4 double.PNG

That double elimination left us with just five players and “bandita747″ with a monster chipstack. “abra1304″ got caught red handed overbetting as a bluff, shoving [Kc][9h] on the [4s][Qh][Jh] flop, and was snap called by “bandita747″ who held [Ac][Qs], luckily for him the turn brought the [Tc] and he caught a miracle double up. “Arvira” has his run of bad luck when he got it in on the [Jc][3s][7h] flop as a huge favourite with [A][J] vs. the [J][T] of “bandita747″ but the turn brought a gut wrenching [Td] for him to knock him out in 5th.

Four-handed play lasted but 2 hands as short stacked “Towei” shoved [Qh][6c] into the [Td][Ts] of “bandita747″ the tens held up and “Towei” left in 4th and “rivermenow” was handed an easy 3rd place spot. He was also soon out when his [Ad][6c] re-shove lost to the [8c][7h] of “bandita747″ who was beginning to seem unstoppable. However heads up play proved otherwise as “abra1304″got lucky with [Ks][5s] vs. the [As][Td] when the board ran out [4c][9s][5c] [Qh] [8c] giving him a 5:1 chip advantage. It wasn’t hard for “abra1304″ to wrap things up from that point on and he took home the win, the 20 leaderboard points and of course $157.85.

We are half way through this season of the Twitter Poker League, it is still a fairly even playing field anyone still has a shot at winning and claiming that $700 Step 5 ticket! Next week’s game is open for registration already; you can find it easily by using the tourney ID: 368741642.

RomkaNN picks up TPL win

03/23/2011 By: Filed in: General | News | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Tournaments | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpg“RomkaNN” wins the third week of the Twitter Poker League, and claims the record for fastest heads up section ever. 1,067 players turned out for the tournament this week, 153 were paid and $184.82 was awarded to first place. We only had one bounty again, as last week’s 3rd place finisher “checkflagman” was the only of the four bounty players to play and a 500FPP price was placed on his heads as a result.

He made up for the other three players by showing, that despite the larger than usual reward that he was defending – he was more than capable of outlasting 90% of the Twitter Poker League field. Finishing in a respectable 79th place, “checkflagman” was knocked out when he pushed incredibly short, with [Ac][9h] and was called by the big blind who held [6d][2c]. The flop [4h][3h][5h] brought a straight for “HOLERATIK” and unable to catch a heart on the turn [4s] or the river [Kc], he was out. Congratulations to “HOLERATIK” on claiming the 500FPP bounty prize. This week’s final four players will each be offered 300FPP bounty prizes, should they play next week. Be sure to look out for them and claim that bonus for yourself.

6 3 ft.PNG

It was a Russian heavy final table, with four of the remaining nine players hailing from Russia including the initial chip leader “Djuk_67″. He held 30% of all the chips at the start of play on the final table, quite a difference from “Ivanxupz” who was the shortest with just 10 big blinds. As you might expect he was the first to go, though he probably thought he was about to double up when he flopped top pair top kicker on the flop of [8c][Kd][6h] with his [As][Ks] but when the money went in on the turn he was drawing dead to “RomkaNN”‘s set of eights [8h][8s]. Shortly after that “steelsox68″ broke his table silence, and moved in with [Ad][Kd] despite missing the [7s][9s][4c] board completely. A brave move but it wasn’t going to make “Zucceroo” fold his top pair with [9h][8c], and the only American at the final table was out in 8th.

7th place this week went to “dimon404200″ who after being crippled when his [Ac][Jc] ran into [Ad][Ks] shoved very short with [Qc][3s] but couldn’t get ahead of “Djuk_67″‘s [Kd][6d]. Next to leave was “Romankondr”, he shoved [Ac][3s] and was called by “Djuk_67″ who held [8d][7d]. The board ran out [7c][Qs][Jd] [7h] [8c], so ace-high for the 6th place finisher and a full house for “Djuk_67″ who didn’t exactly need any more chips.

Five handed play only lasted three hands, as soon to be 5th place finisher “ElGocho1″ was incredibly short. When he finally made his move with [4d][4s] vs. the [Ts][6s] of “Djuk_67″ there was a hope he could double up. Sadly for him though the board came down [6c][7s][8h] [Tc] [Kd] and he hit the rail, but left with a decent $52.81 for his efforts. Four handed play finally saw things slow down a little, soon enough though 4th place meant farewell for “mj500″ when his Queens ran right into the Kings of “RomkaNN”.

6 3 standard.PNG

Some things are just unavoidable.

Things sped right back up once we were three handed, which probably had a lot to do with “RomkaNN” running over the table with his 900k chipstack. There was a great deal of folding until “Djuk67″ finally gave in and called the big stack bully’s re-shove with [Qh][Js], he lost the flip vs. [9h][9s] and left the game in 3rd place. Heads up play was over all too quickly, a mere 4 hands was all it took for the winner to be decided. A slow played flopped nut flush, got the better of “Zucceroo” when he turned the second nut flush, all the money went in on the river and it was game over. “RomkaNN” slyly holding the [Ac][4c] on the [Kc][6c][Qc] [5c] [7s] and “Zucceroo” with the second best flush, with the [Qs][Jc].

“RomkaNN” took home 20 leaderboard points for that win, on top of the $184.82 1st place prize. He sits tied second as a result alongside “JefKez” and “Jjaxbax1″ all of whom have 20 points across the first three games of this season. Leading the way though tied on 21 points for 1st place are “Checkflagman” and last week’s winner “Erashovo”. You get a point just for taking part and 5 points for making the money, with 5 weeks left this season there is no reason why you couldn’t be at the top of the leaderboard by the time week 8 comes around. Registration for next week’s game is already open, check the tourneyID: 368741641 and http://twitter.pokerstars.com/tournaments for more information.

Erashovo picks up TPL win

03/15/2011 By: Filed in: General | News | pokerstars | PokerStars news | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpg“Erashovo” is the Twitter Poker League champion for this week, after beating the 1,191 strong field. Confusion was a big part of #tpoker this week, and not just the usual cases of not understanding at all why ‘that guy’ put 75BB in with a gutshot on the turn. Due to the American daylight savings hour changes the tournament started an hour earlier than usual, thankfully though there was still a healthy turnout.

The last week’s top four players were picked as bounty players this week (“JjaXbax1″, “jefkez”, “YRa3″ and “SeniorX72″), but sadly only one of them managed to register! Whether this was because of the daylight saving start time changes or because the other three were busy trying to play Isildur with their winnings from last week, I don’t know. What I do know is that “jefkez” (@Jefoss) was the sole bounty for this week.

He tweeted very early on to let me know that he had been knocked out, and he wasn’t at all happy:

“#tpoker pocket 10′s vs. pocket 9′s preflop 10′s lose and I’m out already! ‘Rodens’ took my bounty.”

It was certainly “Rodens”‘ lucky day, not only did he win the hand as a 4:1 underdog to claim the 300FPP bounty, he made quads by the time he got to the river!

bounty quads.PNG

Usually four of a kind is the biggest hand I see while watching the action at the tables each week, though it has to be said I can’t watch every table. This week I, along with the 8 players at the table witnessed a Royal Flush being dealt.

6 2 royal.PNG

“Very nice hand tictacman” Not long after that we were playing hand for hand for the second time, and the final table was only a player away. “Royalboyz” pushed all in bravely with [8d][8h] on the final table bubble and ran into the [Kd][Ks] of “Erashovo” and was out. At the same time “SandyB2008″ also lost an all-in, but as they hand more chips than “Royalboyz” and so was granted 9th place. So 8 players gathered around the final table, “Erashovo” lead the way with over 420k in chips and Twitter Poker League regular “Thorax110″ was the shortest at the table with a mere 70k.

As you might expect the shortest stack was the first to fall, “Thorax110″ went all-in with [Ah][Qc] on the button, only to be caught out by the small blind (“cph_viking44″) who held [As][Ks]. The board ran out [6h][4h][Ad] [3c] [9h] and “Thorax110″ was out in 8th place, and took $23.22 with him. 7th place this week went to “frozenkex” who shoved his [Qd][Qh] from the button and flopped a set on the flop of [8c][Qs][7c] but was outdrawn by “cph_viking44″‘s [Kc][Jc] when the turn and river came [2h] and [9c] respectively. So “cph_viking44″ had eliminated another player with that flush and jumped to second in chips, only slightly behind “checkflagman”.

That chipstack didn’t stay that way for long though and a few orbits later “cph_viking44″ was left with less than a big blind and couldn’t win vs. 3 callers. He went out in 6th place and received $47.04, plus 13 leaderboard points. Four hands after that “said124″ made somewhat of a hero call with [2c][2d] vs. the all-in from “penguinnuts” [Ac][Kc], with a [2s] on the flop it was virtually all over and the [3h] on the turn sealed the deal.

Four handed play was fast and aggressive, and “Erashovo” was the overwhelming chip leader with more than 875k. “checkflagman” who had done a spectacular job of losing chips lately soon found himself committed with [6h][6d] in the big blind, he lost the flip with the small blind [7d][9s] when a nine fell on the river. The very next hand “gec883″ who was by far the shortest of the three remaining players, decided to go with his small piece of the board. He had flopped a pair of nines [Jh][9h][3c] with his [9c][5c] from the big blind, but had been trapped by “Erashovo” who held [Ac][Ad]. No miracle turn or river cards, and the match was now heads up.

It was a long and tough heads up match between the chip leader “Erashovo” and “said124″. The chips flew back and forth, and one hand could have changed the whole match can be seen below:

6 2 straight.PNG

“I have a straight”

Nearly a million chips were in the middle on the turn, “Erashovo” must have been sweating hard as he only had 3 outs for a chop! Any card other than a Jack on the river would give “said124″ the lead and a good shot at winning the match all together. While 94% of the time he will lose, the [Jd] did arrive on the river, splitting the pot and probably the heart of “said124″. The match ended with a good old fashioned cooler, both players made a set of Kings by the river on a board of [5d][4s][Kd] [2s] [Ks], but “said124″ was outkicked only holding [Kh][3c] vs. the “Erashovo” [Kc][9c].

We are only 2 weeks into Season 6, it is still very much anyone’s game. Nobody has a big lead and one win will put you in at least the top 3! Registration is already open for next week’s game, why not sign up now; TourneyID: 368741640, the early bird catches the worm right? There will be 300FPP bounties on “Erashovo”, “said124″, “gec883″ and “checkflagman” next week, so look out for them, and good luck to you all!

mikeehlers picks up TPL win

02/24/2011 By: Filed in: General | pokerstars | Pokerstarsblog | Twitter Poker League | UB

ps_news_thn.jpgMore players once again in this week’s Twitter Poker League game; “mikeehlers” came out on top of the 1,327 strong field and claimed $223.30 for his efforts. This 7th week of the season took just five hours from start to finish, and there was plenty of action throughout. We had 4 bounty players as usual, with “DaBigBoss86″ (@DaBigBoss86) “cparsley” (@cparsley1) “zombparadox” (@thewookieway) and “beekiemov” (@beekiemov) volunteering for the challenge of having a 300FPP prize on their heads.

First out was “DaBigBoss86″ who was taken out by “zamyatinol” who held [Ac][As] when the money went in between the two of them; “DaBigBoss86″ had [Ah][Kh] and was unable to come out on top. “zombparadox” had tweeted “@tpokerstars ok, you asked for it, playing on 3 hours sleep, if I’m lucky today!” when requesting to be a bounty this week and we can only assume he fell asleep as he was found sitting out for the majority of the game. When he woke up he was out, but tweeted to let us know what happened “@tpokerstars vagnsm: shows [Kd][Kc] (two pair, Kings and Deuces), ZomBParadox finished the tournament in 347th place” so “vagnsm” won the 300FPP bounty without too much trouble.

Next to go was “cparsley” in 185th, taken out just after the bubble broke, by “GryffinCA”. As the last bounty player standing, eliminating “beekiemov” was now worth 500FPP, and seconds after that announcement he was bust. He lost a flip to stay in when his pocket 10s couldn’t hold up vs. [Ah][Qd], a disappointed @jaydee_97 said: “just went to look for bounty to find the table close as I got there and he’s gone”.

With all the players in the money and the all the bounty players out, the game became focused on reaching the final table. Before long we had our final nine players; “2mister-x”, “ESSY ARMEN”, “timbolious”, “Thorax110″, “mikeehlers”, “maggus”, “BadWolfOne”, “lynatik2006″, and “morar56″ who was the dominant chip leader going into the final table.

7ft.PNG

“ESSY ARMEN” only had three big blinds heading into the final table, making no attempt to save themselves they folded down to their last 722 chips and got it all-in with [Ac][7s] and finished in 9th place after losing to “BadWolfOne” who held [4s][4d]. Next to leave the Twitter Poker League final table was “Thorax110″ who called all-in with [9c][9h] vs. “2mister-x” who had raised under the gun with [As][Ks] as the board ran out [Qc][Ah][3d] [Ad] [8s].

With seven players remaining, “morar56″ slowly but surely began to lose chips. He then made a valiant attempt at bluffing “timbolius” on the [8h][9h][Tc] flop, but was caught red handed as he was going nowhere with his overcards and open ended straight draw, holding [Ac][Jd]. “morar56″ held only the [Qc][7s] for the sucker end of the straight draw and a gutshot. The turn and river bricked out for him [9d] and [8c] respectively, ace-high was good for “timbolius” and “morar56″ finished in 7th for $38.48.

Play slowed down for a little while after that, but then as the blinds got higher and thus the stacks got shorter “lynatik2006″ was soon out calling an under the gun all-in from “BadWolfOne”, his [4s][4d] was dominated by the [8s][8d] and he was out in 6th. Shortly after that, “Maggus” shoved [Ah][Js] from the button into [Kd][Qh], the flip went the way of “BadWolfOne” when he made two pair kings and queens, this left us with four players and an overwhelming chip leader.

“mikeehlers” was by far the shortest stack but was staying alive by constantly steeling and re-stealing the blinds, lady luck was on his side too when a cooler fell his way in the form of [Ad][Ks] vs. [Ac][Qs] blind on blind. After that double up he gained the chip lead and proved once again that everything can change very quickly in poker. A similar situation arose when “timbolius” shoved [Ac][Qs] into “mikeehlers”‘ [Kd][Qh] – the board ran out [Th][9c][6h] [6c] so “timbolius” would win the hand unless and knock out “mikeehlers” unless he hit a King or a Jack on the river. The river was the [Jc] and a double-up to over a million chips was had!

Competition was tight between these four players, and “2mister-x” was the next victim, he lost with [Kh][Qs] to [Ad][Tc] of “BadWolfOne” to finish in 4th for $90.23. Three handed play didn’t last long because “timbolius” was soon out when he called a shove with [Js][9d] out of the big blind, he was unable to beat the [Ah][4c] of “BigWolfOne” and we were now heads up.

“mikeehlers” had a 2:1 chip lead heads up, which is always a huge advantage to have as you can put more pressure on your opponent. The heads up battle was over in just 25 hands, the key one being the last one, when both players held an ace.

7 final hand.PNG

That miracle 6 on the river will probably be in “mikeehlers” thoughts for a while. He took home $223.30 and 20 leaderboard points for the win, and “BadWolfOne” took $162.55 and 18 points for a very respectable 2nd. Next week is the final week of the season, anyone who has 14 points or more has a shot at winning – that’s over 120 of you! Week 1 winner “Widush” is at the top right now with 33 points. Next week’s game is already open for registration in the tournament lobby; you can find it by searching (CTRL+T) for tourneyID: 358316934. Good luck to you all.
